Orly Bendavid is a Brooklyn based ,singer/songwriter, and poet. Orly and her band the Mona Dahls, link indie-pop, jazz, and folk to create a reflective, dramatic, and rich experience. Her lyrical repertoire hangs on elusively simple words and cryptic stories centered around addiction, romantic entanglements, and the human condition.
Orly has opened for folk legends Carolann Solebello, Rachael Kilgour, and Bev Grant, and has been chosen by Falcon Ridge Folk Festival to be one of the Emerging Artists of 2018. In addition, Orly has been a recurring member of the Jack Hardy Song exchange since 2013, and performing frequently in NYC’s music scene as well as at several “unplugged”
Sofar Sounds shows around the city.
Orly and the Mona Dahls’ first album “Mona” was recorded at Grand Street with producer Huw Price (David Bowie, Primal Scream, Nick Cave, and My Bloody Valentine). Mona is a collection of character portraits, “Christine,” about a washed-up former model encountered at a bar, “String Bean,” inspired by an unknown anorexic teenage, pop star; and “Oh God” delving into the depths of addiction, and the cycle of shame it creates.
Orly Bendavid has been played on, and performed at the following venues:

Orly Bendavid (and The Mona Dahl’s from her last album) gives indie folk a bit of a spicy cross over into country and chamber pop at times, but here in this live cut from the amazing Sofar Sounds YouTube channel (oh how I would love to visit and play there) shows off Orly’s talent when she’s on her own.
“Nostalgia” is her new single and it has a jazzy reflective feel to it. Just as well really – and we’ll be reviewing her 2016 album in May just to cover the Nostalgic theme too.
